Spontaneity is an essential prerequisite for individual travel, especially when travelling by bike. External circumstances such as encounters, weather, topography or personal aspects such as mood, performance level, ideas and inspiration can call existing plans into question or render their underlying considerations obsolete.
Long story short: contrary to my initial intention I’m going to pay a short visit to the pearl of the Baltic, the traditional Hanseatic city of Riga. I was too impressed by it during my visits, despite the bicycle theft I suffered there in 2009, to literally ‘leave it out’ on this tour. Instead, I will use a bus transfer from Vilnius to Riga and then continue my journey from there on a slightly different route as planned.
