Baltics and Poland 2026

July-August 2026

After Herbert has cycled through this region several times since 2007, following various routes, we are now setting off together for the first time to discover the stunning landscapes and beautiful towns of the Baltic States and Masuria. Astrid is particularly interested in the region of former East Prussia, the homeland of her ancestors. Although a visit to Kaliningrad (formerly Königsberg) is unfortunately not possible at present, Olsztyn (Allenstein) and Elk (Lyck) are also of significance to her.

Unlike on previous occasions, this time starting point is Helsinki, with a visit to Martin, Rosa and Teis. Martin is providing Herbert with crucial help by building a replacement mount for his cycle computer. We also take away lasting impressions from our visit to Rosa’s interactive loom project at the HAM (Helsinki Art Museum), our trip to the offshore fortress island of Suomenlinna, and our cycle excursion to a beautiful beach outside Helsinki. We were particularly delighted to meet up with our friends Salla and Eetu and their two adorable little twins, Alva and Aaron, as well as – as has become something of a tradition – Margit and Vexi. Shortly afterwards, we’ll be taking the ferry to Estonia’s capital, Tallinn, where our journey through the Baltic States begins.
