Trip without a bike

Since our decision not to continue our Oman trip by bike for the time being, but by other means of transport, by now exclusively by car, there have been, apart from Astrid’s daily Instagram stories, her weekly reports and YouTube videos, no further current reports from us. Therefore, in anticipation of the final travel report on our last country Oman, here is a short overview of what has happened so far, so that you can see how we have fared so far.

After our flight from Aqaba via Amman in Jordan to Muscat, capital of the destination country of our trip, we first stayed in a hotel to do some sightseeing. Shortly before setting off on our planned car tour of Oman, we discovered that my bike had not survived the flight unscathed. Since it is doubtful whether the repair attempt of the aheadset USB socket by an ‘expert’ was successful, I had a replacement part flown in from Germany via DHL to be on the safe side. We have now been travelling in Oman for a fortnight and are full of impressions of this highly interesting and exciting country. Wild and romantic wadis and shady parks, beautiful beaches and imposing cliffs, endless desolate desert landscapes and breathtakingly beautiful huge sand dunes, immense mountain formations and bustling, authentic little towns, modern cities and poor fishing villages, mighty castles and mosques – a variety of impressions that is hard to ‘digest’.

At the moment we have arrived at the southernmost point of our tour, in Oman’s second largest city Salalah, located far in the south of the country just before the Yemeni border and hardly comparable to the rest of Oman. We will stay here for a while and then visit some highlights in the Hadshar Mountains on the way back to Muscat.

We would hardly have been able to discover the wealth of sights and beauties of the country in its diversity by bicycle. So switching to the car absolutely has its advantages.

Back in Muscat, however, we hope for somewhat lower temperatures in the meantime, so that we can continue our journey to the United Emirates, Abu Dhabi and Dubai, with our preferred means of transport, the bicycle, before returning home earlier than planned with Lufthansa at the beginning of December.
